About Tanjaro Adventures

 

Issa stood at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro long before he ever climbed it. As a little boy, he would sit quietly outside their small home in Moshi, rubbing sleep from his eyes while the cold morning wind carried the sound of metal buckles and trekking poles. His father moved carefully in the darkness, preparing climbing gear before sunrise. Every movement looked important, almost magical.

Issa never understood why his father woke up so early, but he loved watching him. The mountain seemed to call his father in a language only he could hear.

“My son,” his father once told him while tightening an old backpack strap, “Kilimanjaro teaches people who they really are.”

Those words stayed in Issa’s heart forever.

Issa Risheddy was born in Kagera, Tanzania, where his parents built a humble life together and raised six children. Life was not easy, but there was love in the home. Years later, when Issa was still a young boy, his father decided to move the family to Moshi, the hometown of his wife. He hoped for better opportunities and a brighter future for his children.

At first, life in Moshi was difficult. His father searched desperately for work until someone introduced him to mountain trekking on Kilimanjaro. He started as a porter, carrying heavy loads up dangerous trails. Day after day, he climbed through rain, cold, and exhaustion. Slowly, through hard work and determination, he became a respected mountain guide.

To Issa, his father became more than a parent  he became a hero.

Every evening, Issa waited eagerly for stories from the mountain. His father spoke about glaciers shining like diamonds, climbers crying tears of joy at Uhuru Peak, and the strength needed to never give up. Listening to those stories, Issa made a promise to himself:

“One day, after I finish my studies, I will climb Kilimanjaro with my father.”

That dream became the light that guided him through childhood.

But life does not always wait for dreams to come true.

Before Issa had the chance to stand beside his father on the mountain, tragedy struck. His father passed away unexpectedly. The man who had inspired his love for Kilimanjaro was suddenly gone.

The pain was unbearable.

For many nights, Issa stared at the mountain from a distance, feeling empty inside. Kilimanjaro no longer looked beautiful. It looked lonely. The dream they were supposed to share had disappeared forever.

Yet somehow, the mountain continued calling him.

After finishing his studies, Issa met one of his father’s old friends, a man named Mohamed. Mohamed saw something familiar in the young man’s eyes — the same passion, determination, and quiet fire his father once carried.

Mohamed was working as a manager for KCB TOURS, and he decided to give Issa a chance. He brought him to Kilimanjaro as a porter.

The first climb was brutal.

Issa carried heavy bags through mud and freezing winds. His legs burned. His lungs fought for air. Some nights he slept exhausted, wrapped in thin blankets while icy temperatures swallowed the camps.

But deep inside, he felt closer to his father with every step.

Each trail felt like walking through his father’s memories.

He worked tirelessly, climbing again and again, learning every route, every danger, every sunrise above the clouds. When work became unavailable at KCB, Issa moved between different companies, refusing to give up on the dream that now belonged entirely to him.

Over the years, he trained as an assistant guide and worked with respected companies such as ZARA TOURS, Mem Tours, and many others. For two years, he guided climbers through storms, fear, and exhaustion, learning not only how to lead people up a mountain — but how to inspire them to believe in themselves.

Eventually, Issa became a full-route guide.

The little boy who once watched his father prepare gear before dawn was now leading people from all over the world to the roof of Africa.

More than 300 clients trusted him with their dreams.

More than 100 times, he stood on the summit of Kilimanjaro.

And every single time he reached Uhuru Peak, he thought about his father.

Sometimes, while the sky turned gold above the clouds, Issa would close his eyes and whisper quietly:

“We finally made it, Dad.”

Years later, Issa realized his journey was never only about climbing mountains. It was about continuing a legacy. It was about transforming pain into purpose.

That passion gave birth to TANJARO ADVENTURES  a company built not only to guide travelers through Tanzania’s majestic landscapes, but to share the spirit of resilience, family, and dreams that survive even after loss.

 

Today, Issa welcomes people from all over the world to experience Mount Kilimanjaro and Tanzania’s breathtaking safaris. But behind every successful journey is the story of a little boy from Kagera who lost his father too soon  and spent his life climbing toward the promise they never got to fulfill together.

And somewhere above the clouds, with the wind dancing across the summit of Kilimanjaro, it feels as though his father is still walking beside him.
