Short Brief :
The Marangu Route, often called the “Coca-Cola Route,” is the most established path up Mount Kilimanjaro. It is the only route that offers hut accommodations, making it ideal for climbers seeking a more comfortable trekking experience. This route features a steady ascent through beautiful rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert zones before reaching the snow-capped summit at Uhuru Peak (5,895m).
At Tanjaro Adventures, we offer a 5-day Marangu Route itinerary designed for trekkers who are physically fit and well-acclimatized. For those seeking a slower pace or better acclimatization, we also recommend our 6-day version.
Day 0: Arrival in Tanzania – Airport Pickup & Pre-Climb Briefing
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a friendly company team member will be waiting to warmly welcome you. You’ll then be transferred to your hotel in Moshi, where you can relax and recover from your journey.

The next morning, after breakfast, your journey to the Marangu Gate and the real adventure to the Roof of Africa begins!
After registration at the Marangu Gate, begin your trek through lush rainforest rich with wildlife and unique vegetation. Arrive at Mandara Hut, where you’ll settle in and explore the nearby Maundi Crater for panoramic views.
The trail ascends out of the forest and into open moorland. Enjoy views of both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks as you continue to Horombo Hut, your base for the night.

Today’s hike is steep and challenging as you pass through the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo. Arrive at Kibo Hut, rest, and prepare for the midnight summit push.
Hiking time: 12–14 hours
A very early start (around midnight) for the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. After a triumphant summit, descend carefully back to Horombo Hut for a well-earned rest.
Descend through the lush rainforest, returning to Marangu Gate where you’ll receive your summit certificates. A vehicle will be waiting to take you back to your hotel for a hot shower and celebration!

These months offer the warmest conditions, with clear skies typically in the mornings and evenings. Light clouds may develop during the day, occasionally obscuring the summit by the afternoon. It’s an ideal time to climb for those who appreciate pleasant temperatures and stunning, unobstructed views.
The long rainy season begins in April and continues through May, bringing heavy rainfall to the lower slopes and snowstorms at the summit. During this time, the mountain is frequently shrouded in dense clouds, limiting visibility and obscuring the scenic views. Climbing conditions can be challenging, so it’s generally advisable to avoid attempting a climb during this period.
This period is the driest and among the most popular times to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Clear skies are common, providing excellent visibility and ideal trekking conditions. While the days are generally pleasant, temperatures can drop significantly at night, particularly at higher elevations.
From late October through November, short rains bring increased cloud cover and wetter conditions. Although climbing is still possible during this time, the mountain is frequently obscured by clouds, and the rain can make the trek more challenging and less enjoyable.
