7 Days Machame Route Itinerary

Day 1: Machame Gate (1830m) to Machame Camp (3000m)

Begin your 7-day journey at Machame Gate, where you’ll register with park authorities before setting off through dense rainforest. Trek along winding paths, encountering diverse flora and fauna along the way. Arrive at Machame Camp, nestled amidst the trees, and settle in for your first night under the stars.

Day 2: Machame Camp (3000m) to Shira Camp (3850m)

Rise early and continue your ascent through the forest, emerging into the heather moorland zone. Traverse rocky terrain and enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Arrive at Shira Camp, perched on a plateau, and marvel at the expansive vistas of Kilimanjaro’s slopes.

Day 3: Shira Camp (3850m) to Barranco Camp (3960m)

Embark on a challenging hike across the Shira Plateau, navigating rugged terrain and high-altitude conditions. Pass beneath the imposing Barranco Wall, a towering rock face that marks the gateway to Barranco Camp. Enjoy breathtaking views of the valley below as you reach your campsite for the night.

Day 4: Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (4035m)

Tackle the infamous Barranco Wall, using hands and feet to scramble up its steep face. Traverse rocky terrain and ascend to the scenic Karanga Valley, where you’ll find Karanga Camp nestled amidst the high alpine landscape. Rest and refuel as you prepare for the final push to the summit.

Day 5: Karanga Camp (4035m) to Barafu Camp (4600m)

Continue your ascent towards the summit, navigating challenging terrain and high-altitude conditions. Arrive at Barafu Camp, your final resting place before the summit bid. Rest and hydrate as you prepare for the long night ahead.

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4600m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) and Mweka Camp (3100m)

Embark on the ultimate ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. Trek through the darkness of night, guided by the light of your headlamp and the determination in your heart. Reach the summit at dawn and bask in the glory of your achievement before beginning the descent to Mweka Camp.

Day 7: Mweka Camp (3100m) to Mweka Gate (1630m)

Descend through lush rainforest, savoring the sights and sounds of the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Mweka Gate, where you’ll bid farewell to the mountain and receive your summit certificates. Transfer back to your accommodation for a well-deserved rest and celebration of your epic journey.
