6 Days Machame Route Itinerary
Day 1: Machame Gate (1800m) to Machame Camp (3000m)
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive to Machame Gate, where you’ll complete park formalities and meet your experienced guides and porters. The trek commences through the dense rainforest, where you may encounter unique flora and fauna, including Colobus monkeys and colorful bird species. As you ascend, enjoy glimpses of the surrounding landscapes before reaching Machame Camp, nestled amidst the lush vegetation, for a hearty dinner and a well-deserved rest.
Day 2: Machame Camp (3000m) to Shira Camp (3850m)
Departing from Machame Camp, continue your ascent through the rainforest, transitioning into the heath and moorland zone. Marvel at the changing scenery, with panoramic vistas of the Shira Plateau and distant peaks. Along the way, your guide will share insights into the local ecology and geology. Arrive at Shira Camp, situated on a picturesque plateau, where you’ll settle in for the night and savor a delicious dinner under the vast African sky.
Day 3: Shira Camp (3850m) to Barranco Camp (3950m)
Today’s trek leads you across the expansive Shira Plateau towards the iconic Lava Tower, a prominent volcanic formation. As you ascend to higher altitudes, take time to acclimatize and appreciate the breathtaking alpine scenery. Descend from the Lava Tower and traverse the rugged terrain to reach Barranco Camp, nestled beneath the towering cliffs of the Barranco Wall. Day 4: Barranco Camp (3950m) to Karanga Camp (3950m)

Day 5: Karanga Camp (3950m) to Barafu Camp (4600m)

Day 6: Barafu Camp (4600m) to Uhuru Peak (5895m) and Mweka Camp (3100m)
Begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak in the early hours, trekking under the starlit sky with the aid of headlamps. As dawn approaches, reach the summit and savor panoramic views of glaciers and plains. Descend through diverse terrain, from rocky slopes to lush rainforest, marking the end of your journey on Kilimanjaro. Arrive at Mweka Camp, where you can rest and celebrate your accomplishment with fellow trekkers.
