6 Days Marangu Route Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Moshi

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Moshi, where you’ll meet your guide for a pre-trek briefing. Spend the day relaxing, exploring Moshi, and preparing for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Moshi to Mandara Hut (2,700m)

After an early breakfast, drive to Marangu Gate (1,860m) in Kilimanjaro National Park. Complete park formalities and begin the trek through lush rainforest. Along the way, you may spot Colobus monkeys and various bird species. Reach Mandara Hut, nestled amidst the forest, for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Continue the trek through the rainforest, gradually ascending to the heather and moorland zone. Enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes as you climb. Arrive at Horombo Hut, situated on a ridge with stunning views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. Rest and acclimatize for the night.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

Spend the day at Horombo Hut for acclimatization. Take a short hike to Zebra Rocks to gain altitude and explore the area. Alternatively, relax at camp, hydrate, and engage in discussions with fellow trekkers and guides. Enjoy hearty meals and rest to prepare for the summit push.

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700m)

Day 5: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut (4,700m) Resume the trek, ascending through the alpine desert of the Saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. The terrain becomes more rugged and barren as you climb higher. Arrive at Kibo Hut, situated at the base of the summit cone. Rest, hydrate, and mentally prepare for the summit attempt.

Day 6: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Descent to Horombo Hut

Day 6: Summit Attempt – Uhuru Peak (5,895m) and Descent to Horombo Hut Begin the final ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, in the early hours of the morning. Trek slowly and steadily, navigating the steep and rocky terrain. Witness the breathtaking sunrise from the summit, celebrating your achievement with fellow trekkers. Take photos and enjoy the panoramic views before descending back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest. Continue the descent to Horombo Hut for dinner and a well-deserved night’s rest.
